"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage on another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25
The Christian life is not meant to be lived in isolation. In contrast to our society, which breeds extreme independence and extreme dependence, God created us for community that reflects His image by being interdependent. That type of Christian community enlivens us because we know and love one another well. We worship weekly as a large body of believers, but we meet regularly in smaller groups to pray, study the Bible, and care for one another. This is both an ancient church practice and a theological reality.
Christ works in us and through us by His Spirit as we live in community. The result is that we are:
- We are transformed in Christ. (1 Corinthians 6:11, Romans 6:5-6)
- We are transformed together in Christ. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
- We welcome others in to be transformed in Christ. (Ephesians 4:15-16)
